Kiel
City with a rich naval history
Kiel is the capital for the northern region Schleswig-Holstein. Located on the Baltic Sea Kiel is famous for its naval history, being the main base since the 1860’s, a hub for shipbuilding. Kiel also host the world largest sailing event in the world “Kieler Woche” (Kiel Week). During the 1936 and 1972 Olympics Kiel was the respective hosts of the sailing competitions.

The Largest Sailing ship for Training, the “Gock Fock“
The Gock Fock travels the world training future German Sailors. This is a very stable ship with more than 300 tonnes of iron in it’s hull. The Gock Fock is usually around for the Kiel week with thousands of visitors who come out and enjoy the open ship events.
The Old Quarter and Kiel Canal
Stroll through the Old Market and see the Geistkampfer (The Ghost Fighter) Sculpture. The Church of St. Nicholas is located in the Old Market Square. Loctated close by the Market is the Kleiner Kiel lake. A smaller lake that forms a semi circle around the old part of town. The Kiel Cannal is the worlds busiest man made water way with many locks. harmonious whole.
Kiel harbour
This gateway to the economic region around the Baltic is extrememly important for trade. Some of the bussiest shipping. A tour around all of these beautifule boats of the baltic can last half a day or more. Follow that with a tranquil lunch overlooking the Harbour.
Laboe
Laboe has an important naval memorial, as well as the WWII-era submarine U-995, a popular tourist site since 1972. The Laboe Beach scene is also a quality beach to sit back and enjoy the sun and surf after a tour around the Laboe area.
